Ultrasound/IFC

Ultrasound therapy is a treatment modalities use to treat acute and chronic pain conditions, and to speed tissue healing. Ultrasound therapy might be quite effective for the Osteoarthritis, pain, Bursitis, Carpal tunnel syndrome, Pain caused by scar tissue, Strains/ sprains and Phantom pain conditions. Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality used by physiotherapists. A round-headed wand is put in direct contact with the patient’s skin.

This vibration or cavitations can cause a deep heating locally, although, usually no sensation of heat will be felt by the patient. In situations where a heating effect is not desirable, such as a fresh injury with acute inflammation, the ultrasound can be pulsed rather than continuously transmitted. A typical ultrasound treatment will take from three to five minutes. In cases where scar tissue breakdown is the goal, this treatment time can be much longer. Ultrasound can produce many effects other than just the potential healing effect. It has been shown to cause increases in tissue relaxation, local blood flow, range of motion and scar tissue breakdown. The effect of the increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation. The intensity or power density of the ultrasound can be adjusted depending on the desired effect. A great power density is often used in cases where scar tissue breakdown is the goal.

IFC has been used in physical therapy treatment for many years and has been proven to be very safe. Interferential Current Therapy (IFC) is a noninvasive therapy indicated for the symptomatic relief from, and management of, chronic intractable pain and post-surgical and post-trauma acute pain. It provides a safe and effective alternative to pharmacological approaches to pain control. IFC has minimal side effects and is non-addictive. Adverse reactions associated with electrotherapy may include skin irritation beneath the electrodes. There is some advantage of Interferential Current Therapy like it safe and effective alternative to pain control medications, Non-addictive and minimal side effects and Patients can manage their own pain. Our unique Active Physio Centre is integrated health and wellness model puts patients at the centre of care. Skilled therapists work together to deliver optimal health care.
